On-Site User Guide

Everything you need to operate this machine safely and confidently.

Using the U17-5 in Stafford

Stafford has a high share of detached homes, 38.5% in the 2021 Census, and they usually have room for the U17-5 down the side. It is the machine for extension footings, drive dig-outs and drainage trenches.

Brine was pumped from under Stafford Common until 1970, when it was stopped because of subsidence. Near the old salt workings, ask building control or an engineer about the ground before you set footing depths.

Parts of Forebridge, Doxey and Castletown are in the River Sow and Penk flood zones. Clay there can be shallow and slow to drain, so test before you commit to a soakaway.

Before the U17-5 arrives in Stafford

  • Check the flood map if you are near the Sow or Penk.
  • Measure the side access: the U17-5 needs 1.0 m.
  • Search LinesearchbeforeUdig for buried services.
  • If the job runs past three days, compare the £295 weekly rate.
