🚜 Hydraulic Breaker Hire — Kubota KM55

Kubota KM55 Health & Safety Guidance - Breaker / Attachment Use

HSE-aligned safety rules for operators

Important – Read First

  • The KM55 is an attachment fitted to an excavator and operated from the cab using the machine's auxiliary hydraulics. Use it only on a suitable carrier (0.7-1.1 tonne excavator), operated by a trained excavator operator.
  • Keep everyone out of a 20-metre exclusion zone, around AND below the work area.
  • The tool gets very hot in use - never touch it.
  • 👷
    Who May Operate

    • Only a competent, trained excavator operator (aged 18 or over) using a suitable carrier.
    • Wearing the full PPE set: safety helmet, hearing protection, impact-resistant eye protection with side shields, protective gloves, safety boots, respiratory protection where needed, and close-fitting work clothing (nothing loose).

    ⚠️
    Main Hazards

    • Flying debris and falling material - keep everyone out of a 20-metre exclusion zone (around and below). Press the tool onto the surface before starting.
    • Extreme noise (about 89 dB(A) at 10 m) - hearing protection required.
    • Hand-arm vibration.
    • Hot tool - the tool gets very hot in use; never touch it.
    • High-pressure hydraulic fluid - can penetrate skin; relieve the pressure before disconnecting hoses.
    • Underground and overhead services - the breaker is not electrically insulated; never work near electric cables.
    • Explosive or flammable atmospheres - never operate near flammable materials, fumes or dust.
    • Carrier stability and working under a raised boom - an undersized excavator can tip.
    • Dust and silica - damp down and use respiratory protection where needed.
    • Tool ejection - never operate without a proper tool retainer.

    ✅
    Key Rules

    • Keep the 20-metre exclusion zone clear.
    • Tool square to the work; no blank-firing.
    • No prying or lifting with the tool.
    • Stop immediately if anyone approaches.
    • Relieve the hydraulic pressure and stop the engine before changing the tool.

    📋
    Responsibility

    • The hire company is responsible for inspection and maintenance.
    • The operator is responsible for safe operation and for stopping if the machine is unsafe.

🔒 If anything looks unsafe, sounds unusual or feels wrong: STOP WORK & CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY. Do not continue operating the machine.
