🚜 Hydraulic Breaker Hire — Kubota KM55

Kubota KM55 Quick Start Guide

Kubota KM55 Breaker Attachment

The KM55 is an attachment that fits onto an excavator and is operated from the excavator cab using the machine's auxiliary hydraulics. It must only be used when fitted to a suitable carrier (0.7-1.1 tonne excavator) by someone trained to operate an excavator with a breaker.

🔍
1. Before Use

  • Confirm the breaker is correctly fitted, with the boom and toggle retaining pins locked.
  • Confirm the correct tool (moil point or chisel) is fitted and the tool lock pin is in place.
  • Confirm the tool has been greased.
  • Confirm the carrier excavator is a suitable size and standing stable and level. The carrier must have a protective screen in front of the operator.
  • Clear and control a 20-metre exclusion zone around and below the work area.

📌 If anything looks loose, damaged or leaking, do not use it - contact us.

🔧
2. Fitting

We normally fit this for you.

  • Adapter bolts tight; boom and toggle pins fully inserted and locked.
  • Hydraulic hoses connected with no leaks, fitted with the accumulator side facing the cab.

🔨
3. Operating the Breaker

  • Position the tool at 90 degrees (square) to the surface.
  • Press the tool firmly onto the material before starting - never start 'in the air'.
  • On large objects, start near an edge and work inwards - never start in the middle.
  • Apply steady down-pressure through the boom.
  • Never strike the same spot for more than about 15 seconds - reposition if it won't break.
  • Keep the boom off full extension and full retraction.

⛔
4. Never

  • Blank-fire (run the breaker without the tool pressed onto material).
  • Pry, lever or bend with the tool.
  • Use the breaker to lift, drag or move debris.
  • Work near electric cables or services - the breaker is not electrically insulated.
  • Operate in an explosive or flammable atmosphere, or near flammable materials, fumes or dust.

🛢️
5. Greasing

  • Grease the tool about every 2 hours with the correct chisel paste, with the tool pushed fully in.

🛑
6. What to Watch Out For (Stop & Inform Us)

  • Hydraulic leaks or damaged/chafed hoses.
  • Loose tool or retaining pins.
  • A sudden drop in breaking performance.
  • Overheating.

📌 The tool gets very hot in use - never touch it.

🏁
7. Stopping / Changing the Tool

  • Switch off immediately if anyone enters the danger area.
  • Before any tool change: stop the excavator engine and relieve the hydraulic pressure.
  • Never touch the tool while the hydraulics are connected.

📌 The breaker has an internal pressurised accumulator - never attempt to dismantle it. Contact us.

🔒 Never blank-fire, and keep everyone out of a 20-metre exclusion zone (around and below). The tool gets very hot - never touch it.
